Etiquette Tips/Thank You

  • The best thank-you notes are personalized and written by hand on high-quality stationery.
  • It’s always nice to mention the gift and what it enables you to do.
  • If cash is received, do not mention the amount in the card. Instead say thank you and mention the purpose for which the money will be used.
  • Use a stamp, not the company postage meter.
  • You should send a thank you note within 24 hours.
  • Never ask for a favor in a thank you note.
  • Hostess gifts do not require a thank you note.
  • It is not appropriate to send a thank you via email, unless you’re thanking someone for setting up your computer.
  • It’s never too early to teach children how and when to send a thank-you note. If the child isn’t old enough to write yet, encourage children to draw a picture and print their name at the bottom of the note.
