The Art of Saying Thank You
  1. The best thank-you notes are personalized and written by hand on high-quality stationery.
  2. It’s always nice to mention the gift and what it enables you to do.
  3. If cash is received, do not mention the amount  in the card.  Instead say thank you and mention the purpose for which the money will be used.
  4. Use a stamp, not the company postage meter.
  5. You should send a thank you note within 24 hours.
  6. Never ask for a favor in a thank you note.
  7. Hostess gifts do not require a thank you note.
  8. It is not appropriate to send a thank you via email, unless you’re thanking someone for setting up your computer.
  9. It’s never too early to teach children how and when to send a thank-you note.  If the child isn’t old enough to write yet, encourage children to draw a picture and print their name at the bottom of the note.
